For those that don’t know…

Whale sharks migrate to La Paz, Mexico once a year. They arrive in November-ish and hang around until early Spring.

These are neither a whale nor a shark, in fact they are merely a fish.

However, be prepared to see the largest fish in the world. Check out the photo below!

I took this photo. The lady swimming by the mouth of this beast is my sister in law. She is a very brave soul.

Sort of… whale sharks are not aggressive in any way towards humans.

We rented a boat and got a chance to snorkel with these majestic beasts a few months ago. What a remarkable experience. Fortunately, the Mexican government is doing a stellar job of managing this resource. Regulations are in place to ensure that visitors do not molest the whale sharks in any way. For more information, here is a good travel blog post describing an experience with these fish.

If you are going to book a day trip to see the whale sharks, make sure you head out in the morning. Winds pick up in this part of Baja during the afternoons. Highs winds can disrupt visibility.

Okay – get out there and snorkel!
