New Jersey currently requires a boater education card (certificate) for anyone who operates a motorized vessel in New Jersey.

New Jersey also does currently require a boating license to operate a power vessel or personal watercraft (including jet ski or waverunner) on non-tidal waters of New Jersey. A boat license is not required for non-powered vessels (i.e.sailboats).

Additionally, many insurance agencies offer a boat insurance discount for all boaters who have taken a boating safety course.
